Fr. Benzy sss - Canonical Visit - January 2026
Right at the beginning of this short write-up on the canonical visit of Rev. Philip Benzy Remicion, SSS, the Superior General of our Congregation, I wish to borrow a sentence from Pope Francis when he addressed the priests: “I am a brother among brothers and a sinner among sinners.”
Very truly, Rev. Benzy was honest and humble in addressing the reality and present state of our Kristu Jyoti Province, India. He included himself while sharing the realities of community life, using vivid images and meaningful personifications. He clearly emphasized the three important canonical responsibilities of a community superior. With a tone that was soft and gentle, yet firm and challenging, he offered a timely reminder on the centrality of Adoration.
Overall, the first five Rules of our Congregation were given due importance. He drew our attention to the responsible preparation(physical, intellectual, and spiritual) proper celebration (without dilution), and authentic proclamation of the Eucharist, where liturgy flows into life. The two core identities of our Congregation, personal and community Adoration, and helping people to adore the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, were highlighted with great clarity and depth.
The day was filled with personal meetings for those who wished, common reflection, Adoration, Vespers, Eucharistic celebration, a joyful table fellowship, and a warm adieu. Overall, his presence, presentation, and the points he offered for pause and reflection helped us to recognize our strengths, areas of growth, opportunities, and challenges.
As the saying goes, “A mirror only points out; it does not do the correction.” He pointed out the realities, leaving it to each one of us to take responsibility to correct, grow, and move forward for the greater glory of the Eucharistic Lord.
Adveniat Regnum Eucharisticum Tuum.
(May Your Eucharistic Kingdom come.)
